Buchanan & Co have been a firm supporter of Cancer Research UK and their Will Writing Service offer (for 18’s and over) for over two decades now. The fine work they do in the research and development of cures for one of our most common killers in our society, is amazing.
Many of our staff members have had loved ones who have unfortunately had experience of Cancer and we as a firm are trying our best to help to encourage people to leave a consideration in their Will to reflect this fantastic organisation’s fine work.
Our 2024 statistics with CRUK showed that we as a firm, were are in the top 3 Law Firms to support them in the Midlands & Northern Region and the fantastic bequests made by our clients topped the £1.7m mark.
“To confirm the figures so far, Buchanan & Co (both offices combined) have raised approximately £1,711,847 from the Will Writing Service.
“The average value of each of these gifts is therefore £13,865 and an incredible 97% of these wonderful supporters did choose to leave a gift to CRUK in their Will”.

What is covered by the Cancer Research Will Writing package?
This is to construct a standard Will which includes the below information;
- Your personal details
- Your chosen Executors & Trustees
- Your chosen Beneficiaries i.e. wife/husband then children/grandchildren etc.
- Bequests to CRUK and any other charity or society.
- Your choice of dispatch e.g. cremation/burial.
Should you require a more in depth Will, for example, a Trust clause for minors, Trust clauses for the gifting of property and the like, then additional charges will apply. These extra charges do attract VAT at the current published rate.
What else do I need to know?
We respectfully ask you to have a kind heart towards the investment CRUK have made in sponsoring the offer and Buchanan & Co reserve the right to refuse to act should there be no bequest made within the Will, to recognise the investment the charity has made to facilitate this Will Writing Service to you.
We recommend that the Will/s be registered with CERTAINTY, the Will registration scheme, for £30 + VAT for single Wills and £40 + VAT for double Wills. Should you elect not to register your Will/s with Certainty then an annual charge of £10 + Vat will apply for the storage of your Will/s.
There is also a mandatory fee of £20.00 per person for our biometric ID checker……to ensure your personal ID is safe to use.
Legal Guidance Service
Cancer Research UK have awarded us the honour of being only a handful of firms in the North of England district to be able to offer an additional £500 (inc vat) to supporters taking part in their Will Writing Service. The aim of this ‘Grant’ is to help you with the cost of us preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney, Property Trust and the like. This amazing gesture comes with conditions, but don’t be put off, its just a gift in your Will to CRUK when your pass on. Click here to find out more.
